  • Why “Admin” Is Never A Good Idea For Your Custom WordPress Site

    Jeremy Blanton
    21 May 2015 | 9:51 am
When it comes to the security of your Custom WordPress Site this needs to be a top priority for any WordPress site owners.  I’ve talked in the past about the importance of keeping your site up to date to keep your site secure, but today I want to talk about the other major reason most sites get hacked. Too many times when you are using a hosting solution with a 1-click WordPress install option, the default username is set to Admin.  Unfortunately, if you don’t customize the username from the default Admin setting, you are placing your website at a much greater risk of someone…

By now it is no surprise that mobile friendly websites are no longer just an add-on option when building your website, but rather a necessity to how well your Custom WordPress Site ranks in the search engines. Google has been dropping hints for years on how important the mobile version of your site is.  In fact, I wrote about it back in 2011 here.  Back then, we would simply install a WordPress plugin and it would create a somewhat clean mobile version of your WordPress site. Since then, Google is looking for more when it comes to the mobile version of your website.  No longer will a…

Seems like a rather legit email right?  I mean it shows the email coming directly from and even has the correct phone numbers to contact.  Because of the technical terminology in the email, Anna immediately contacted me to get things fixed. The first thing I did before clicking the link in the email, I went over to Sucuri and did a scan of her site.

  • Are You A Broke Entrepreneur

    Tamyka Washington
    22 May 2015 | 11:48 am
How many passionate entrepreneurs do you, who love what they do, but are still struggling financially? How many do you see, selling themselves short, doing everything under the sun trying to make a buck? Crazy right? It really doesn’t have to be that way. Clearly, there are many entrepreneurs who are proof of that. You shouldn’t have to feel like following your dreams and passion for life freedom, is hard work. In early 2014, I was in that same situation. Struggling financially, stressing, burnt out, slaving away trading hours for dollars as a virtual assistant and consultant. The…

Over the past few months, many of my email subscribers and followers have reached out to ask me, why I chose Total Life Changes. I’ve also been asked, what is it about this particular company, that has myself, along with so many others, so excited.. To be completely honest, I wasn’t looking for a business to join. In fact, I ignored the first offer when it was presented to me. However, a few months later…I was given another chance to make the decision. In this post, I will do my best to explain from my point of view, and personal experience. Reason #1 The products are all…

You know what drives me crazy? Being an entrepreneur, and still having people tell you how to be an entrepreneur. I get it though…if you’ve found a successful way to do business, you want to share that (or sell it), to others on the same pursuit. The problem I have is when people try to convince you that their way of “being an entrepreneur”, is the right way, or the only way to achieve success. WRONG! Entrepreneurship is FREEDOM…many of us left corporate positions, or chose this path so we could express ourselves the way we know how, the way that is natural to…

So here we are, almost a month after #mobilegeddon when Google moved ahead with its new search algorithm meant to penalize websites not considered mobile-friendly. Was it the end of the world as we know it? Not really. But it’s nevertheless interesting to see how major brands, specially in the travel sphere, have embraced a mobile approach in the recent past. Why is this so important? Consider these recent findings: 60% of all online search now comes from mobile devices (Source: TNW) There are now more Google searches coming from smartphones than desktop and tablets in 10 countries,…

We know how dominant and pervasive Facebook has become in our daily lives, and recent data shared by the king of social media confirms this impression. Let’s not forget that when we say Facebook, we must also keep Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram in mind, which are all big players in their own right. By now, any travel brand with a digital marketing strategy in place will have some role for Facebook in its overarching approach. And while we know organic reach is nowhere near where it once was, this doesn’t mean travel brands ought to forget Facebook outright. I had…

There are many who think customers that take some of their valuable time to write up a review about a hotel property, a restaurant or an attraction, must be because there was something wrong or they want to share their frustrations. Think again! As has been the trend for well over a year, Facebook made more incremental gains in Q1 2015 to further establish itself as the prevailing identity provider. While Google+ remains the only other identity provider to control a double digit percentage of all logins, the gap between Facebook and every other login choice has become a chasm.  While Facebook’s dominance continues to maintain and even grow, it may not be long before other providers, like Apple with its Touch ID authentication mechanism, become threats to Facebook in the war for identity. As the world of identity broadens and…
  • How Brands Are Boosting Ad Revenue With Identity Data

    Reeyaz Hamirani

The process of securing ad sponsorships and converting consumers is not what it used to be. Gone are the days when brands would rely solely on publicly available demographic data like age, gender, and estimated household income in an attempt to bucket consumers into simple – yet at the time sufficient – personas like “moms” and “teens.” As Internet usage grew, brands were offered a much more immediate and individualistic view of consumers, ushering in a new advertising model that traded in stereotypical blanket personas for targeting using cookies and third-party data…

If the business of America is business than we are in a hell of a lot of trouble.  It seems sometimes that some of the best and brightest people are the ones being shown the door while the established empty suits understand that they can get away with not performing if they make some changes ore get their names in the trade press.  The amount of money companies wasted on hiring big consulting companies staffed with MBA’s whose job it is to recommend changes based on their ideal of a business is staggering sometimes.  Then there are businesses who try and sell us stuff via the free…

    15 May 2015 | 2:39 am
With an estimated $2.1 trillion in spending power, moms influence 85% of all purchase decisions and buy nearly everything for everybody.   Based on consumer neuroscience, a growing area for marketers looking to better understand consumers in more depth and with greater detail and precision, we know that moms and women in general use more areas of their brains to process information than men do, giving them enhanced multi-tasking, especially when it comes to shopping activities. So based on these insights, marketers and ad agencies need to understand some best practices when it comes to…

    14 May 2015 | 4:22 am
Macy’s reported today that sales and profit are down. The company blamed weather and increased competition for the slump. But the most disturbing reason business is declining could be the state of the average Macy’s consumer. “The consumer has not bounced back with the confidence that we were all looking for,” CEO Terry Lundgren said at the Goldman Sachs Annual Retail Conference in September. OK, as someone on LinkedIn said “who shops at Macy’s anyway?”.  He could be right, but Macy’s is on to something here.  Despite recent gains in…

It’s not often that we’re grateful there’s a general election in the offing, but this week it’s provided an absolutely fantastic example of the power of Facebook, when it’s used smartly. The example comes from one of our UK political parties, but the principles absolutely apply to any organisation. Initially, my eye was caught by a story about the Conservative Party spending over a hundred thousand pounds per month on various advertising and promotional activities on Facebook. Invoices obtained by the BBC apparently show spends of £122,814 in September 2014, and…

Instagram recently announced that the App has passed the 300 million user mark,  making it the world’s second largest social media platform, eclipsing Twitter’s 284 million. Although, to keep things in perspective, it’s still dwarfed by Facebook, which has around 1350 million monthly active users*. What is Instagram doing so right? If Twitter is about reading what’s new in the world, Instagram is about seeing it. That greater immediacy, and the “picture is worth a thousand words” principle, is obviously very powerful and attractive to users. It may also…

All these people would like an ipad. Does that make them potential customers?   Last week, I was sitting in a traffic jam on one of London’s major roads. To my left is a huge development under way, several high rise blocks being clad in shiny glass and steel. And around the outside of the site hoardings, a bright banner advertising off plan sales of the new apartments, and inviting me to “follow {the developer} on Facebook to win an IPad!”. That developer isn’t alone, by any means; most weeks I notice more than one advert offering a similar “bribe”, in…

    8 May 2015 | 10:46 am

We were facing this problem ourselves at Socedo, as almost all information…

You can not go and do a few tweaks here and there and magically expect an instant traffic boost. In fact, SEO is and can only be a long-term strategy. If I…

    13 May 2015 | 4:00 am
In a competitive market like Raleigh-Durham where well-established law firms are in abundance, local attorneys must utilize all the tools in their online marketing toolbox whenever possible. One of the best ways for an attorney or firm to get their name out there is to consider pay-per-click (PPC) advertising, like Google AdWords. Google AdWords can be set up as complex or simply as needed and, for an attorney or law office, it’s vital for the campaigns to be set up and implemented in the most efficient way possible. Here are three helpful tips to keep in mind when using PPC to promote your…
  • Why Digital Marketing is Important for Healthcare

    Rob Delory
    11 May 2015 | 5:00 am
As a doctors office, hospital, or other healthcare related business, being able to have your information found online seems like a monumental task. The search engines are trying to index all of this information and give the best result to the users, but it can feel like a lot for you to keep up with. Learn how to help your healthcare related information get found. Since healthcare is about 18% of our national economy, it would be a fair assumption to guess that the amount of information on the web is somewhat proportional to that number. So many industries revolve around this subject and…

  • I Will No Longer Be an Instagram Slacker

    Mandy Edwards
    19 May 2015 | 4:30 am
Mandy Edwards Ah, Instagram. The lovely app that lets you share pictures of your food, your kids and your selfies. I’ve been an active user of Instagram personally. I’ve been a slacker using it professionally. No more. I was recently at a conference where pretty much every business there had an active Instagram strategy for their business. To say I was blown away was an exaggeration. I’ve always read about the benefits of using it for your business, but honestly never put too much into it. Why? None of my clients are actively using it and even though I set up one for my business, I let…
  • Posting to Social Media: Free Speech vs Poor Choices

    Jennifer Hanford
    14 May 2015 | 4:30 am
Jennifer Hanford Without a doubt, social media has forever changed the way we communicate.  Whether we feel like sharing memes with our friends, or broadcasting our opinions to the world, many of us do so by posting to social media. Social media provides any of us with the ability to share our words and thoughts instantly. A few keystrokes and BAM – our words are online…possibly for forever. We leave our digital footprints everywhere. This alone provides us with a good reason to always think ahead before we post, especially when sharing posts with potentially negative or offensive…

  • 5 Things I Wish Someone Had Told Me When I Graduated College

    Mandy Edwards
    12 May 2015 | 4:30 am
Mandy Edwards As I’m writing this, it’s May. Graduation season. Every other post seems to be about ways graduates can find jobs, balance life, pay off debt, etc. Ugh.   Don’t get me wrong, that’s all important stuff, but that’s not reality. Most college graduates already have a job, have no clue what balancing life means (come on – they’re single with no spouse or kids, mostly) and already know they’ll be in debt for the next umpteen hundred years.   I graduated college 14 years ago. I had a wonderful experience and was excited to get into the business world.

  • Should your brand use Instagram? Here’s a checklist to find out.

    Nicole Harrison
    13 May 2015 | 3:25 pm
I love social media strategy. If you email me and ask me about working on a project, I will inevitably have a whole strategy sorted out in my mind before we ever even sign a contract. My brain is constantly figuring out how to do things to build brands, audiences and businesses. As much as I love social media and love building strategy, a part of the social media game I do not like is saying “no” to people: “No, you should not set up a Pinterest,” or “No, you don’t have a budget for 10 channels,” or “No, Instagram is not the right…
  • Maximizing Tweet Reach–It’s a Matter of Time

Are you not getting the results you want on Twitter? Let’s say you’ve read the blogs and watched the videos on how to get favorites and followers, but you’re still not getting the needed engagement. This probably means that you are well educated with the ‘what’ and not so much with the ‘when.’ What does this mean? • Time matters Although broad, the Tweets with the most engagement are posted on the weekends between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. • Get to the point Tweets that are less than 100 characters are more popular than lengthy posts. Try to say what you need to…
  • Facebook Reviews Make or Break Online Marketing Efforts

    Nicole Harrison
    16 Apr 2015 | 3:45 pm
Online marketing is immense. It’s no surprise that many people have a hard time prioritizing all the aspects of digital marketing that all seem equally important. I’m here to tell you that one of the most commonly overlooked aspects of online marketing is the Facebook review. I typically advise clients to identify the different locations online that people may potentially review their brand and focus on ways to increase positive reviews as a major part of their social media marketing efforts. One online location where the opportunity to review brands and businesses is Facebook.
  • Instagram for Business (Because You Can’t Afford Not to)

    Malena Larsen
    31 Mar 2015 | 1:49 pm
Posts involving photos and other visual effects are the posts that grab the most attention. But we know this by now, right? It is easy to barely glance at the long, wordy, Facebook statuses and glaze over blogs with nothing but exhaustingly long paragraphs. With Twitter and Facebook, photos are optional, unlike Instagram, where each post must have a photo or something else visual. Instagram lets visuals be the center of attention. That’s part of what makes Instagram so intriguing. Instagram for business is a unique, refreshing way to promote your field, product or service. Adding Instagram…

We understand–you’re looking for your Google+ fans to engage with you. Your profile and cover photos can make or break if someone adds your business to one of their circles, so it’s important to take your photos seriously. It’s so tempting to just pin up your company’s logo everywhere and call it good, but it’s more of an art than that. You’re looking for comments, +1s, anything. It’s frustrating to believe you’re doing all you can to get people to talk to your small business online, and then–crickets. This cricket knows you can do…

You may see multiple posts from the same source in a row. You will be less likely to see posts about friends liking or commenting on another story. In October, Facebook is changing the way marketers…

The message being: direct your attention where it matters, stop doing everything else. 12 Mar 2015 | 9:39 pm

One of the great things about processing millions of tweets a day is that we get the data to answer interesting questions like this. The graph above shows when you absolutely should not schedule your content: at the top of the hour. This graph shows the some rates of message processing, in tweets per second, that happened on a recent mid-week day, close to 9 o’clock AM, pacific time. Notice how just before the top of the hour, messages are being processed at a…

    20 May 2015 | 12:23 pm
On May 4th, Google+ introduced a Pinterest-like feature: Google+ Collections. Google+ Collections gives its users the ability to group their posts into topic-based sections. Collections is different from pages and communities in that you are the only person who is able to modify the content and the posts will appear in your profile streams for followers to view. “Every collection is a focused set of posts on a particular topic, providing an easy way for you to organize all the things you are into. Each collection can be shared publicly, privately, or with a custom set of people.’’…
  • Bing To Roll Out Mobile-Friendly Ranking Algorithm

    Alex Noudelman
    19 May 2015 | 2:00 pm
Bing will follow in Google footsteps and unveil its own mobile-friendly ranking algorithm in the upcoming months. Unlike Google, it will not set a date for when the algorithm will set in and is taking a slower approach to it in order to better communicate the changes and reduce potential whiplash from webmasters. Despite the announcement about the importance of having a mobile friendly site, Bing is still focused on relevancy to user queries.  Sites that are relevant but not mobile friendly will most likely still rank. This is because the second largest search engine on the World Wide Web is…

    Alex Noudelman
    7 May 2015 | 12:39 pm
Online crowdsourcing is very real and one of the most important aspects of Online Reputation Management and Digital Marketing. When it comes to making a decision about hiring a contractor or finding the best ”sushi” restaurant in the city, there are many message boards and listservs online that are trustworthy and that you can turn to in order to help ease your decision making. However, in order to make a quicker decision without reading through hundreds of threads of message boards, consumers turn to review sites like Yelp, Angie’s List and Google Reviews. Collecting feedback from…
  • The Value of Links in SEO & Online Marketing

    Vera Soons
    6 May 2015 | 10:24 am
Learning how to build links is an essential part of being an SEO specialist. The number of referrals to a site is based on the SEO-jargon: link popularity. Google uses the number of quality links to measure the quality of a website or webpage. Webmasters are permitted to create as many links as possible in order to generate traffic. However, it is preferable to have links from websites that are related to your industry and that have keywords in common with your website. There are two sorts of links that a webmaster can create: natural and unnatural links. Google considers a natural link to be…

  • Is Reposting Blog Content On LinkedIn Pulse, Medium, and Other Sites a Good Idea?

    Kim Cooper
    23 Mar 2015 | 5:45 am
I’ve been questioning recently whether publishing to sites like LinkedIn Pulse and Medium is worth my time and effort. While the benefit seems obvious (more eyeballs on your content) there’s a big cost—the precious time it takes to create content. Compared to guest posting on other sites, LinkedIn and Medium use “no follow” links so there’s no link building SEO benefit. The benefit is purely exposure, awareness, and branding. And those are fleeting benefits, unlike the long-term benefits of creating content on your own site. So what about reposting blog content? It would certainly…

Team Audienti has just returned from Vegas, where we attended Collision Conference, the inaugural stateside version of Dublin’s famed Web Summit. The Haters The conference is not without controversy. An entrepreneur on Medium recently wrote a cautionary tale about what he considered Collision’s bait-and-switch tactics to tempt startups with “free” exhibition space–but then charging, at a reduced rate of buy one, get two free conference passes as a mandatory part of entry. The scarcity principle tells us that the perceived value of an object increases as its availability decreases. A famous and oft-cited example is a 1975 study by Worchel, Lee, and Adewole. The researchers surveyed 200 female undergraduates on the value and attractiveness of cookies in two separate jars: one jar held ten cookies, and the other held two. The subjects placed higher value on the cookies in the latter jar. When the number of cookies in the first jar dwindled, the value of the remaining cookies rose; and rose more when the subjects were told that the cookies were lost to…

  • Image Sharing (new feature) and a free tool to count social media shares

    João Romão
    19 May 2015 | 5:36 am
Hey everyone! Yeah, I know, we’ve been under the radar. I’m sorry for that but things have been crazy lately and we’re still a team of 4. However, I bring some good news. Although we were able to reduce considerably the number of support tickets we were receiving (thanks to our knowledge base), we still get loads of feedback from our 25,000+ strong user base. One of the most recurrent requests was the ability to share, independently, an image. You might be asking: how do I add social sharing buttons to each image? This came specially from bloggers with rich-media websites,…

We want to do something new, something fresh. Some companies sit on a pile of cash, we sit in a pile of data. Every day, thousands of users use our social media apps in their websites to track millions of visitors and their social activity. In fact, in the last 30 days we tracked more than 3 million visits and 50 thousand shares per day. It might seem low for some, but we’ve come a long way and we’re growing faster than ever. This amount of data brings to use amazing data we can work on. That said, something we’d like to do for our readers is to provide some intelligence…
  • How to track Copy Paste Shares (and why you should do it)

    João Romão
    22 Apr 2015 | 3:35 pm
Today, marketers focus a lot on understanding how social media drives their business. Reporting, results, revenue, and return on investment are four R’s that are part of every social marketer’s life, and they’re here to stay. Sometimes they face problems on this approach though. The first is that they’re failing to fully understand the analytics, metrics, and ROI behind their digital marketing initiatives. The second, and as a consequence of the first, is that they’re struggling to optimize their social media spending due to the lack of proper reporting. This gives to the notion…

Hello everyone. April has been great, and I mean GREAT. We’re experiencing some serious growth (61% since the beginning of the month to be precise) and we’re now onboarding hundreds of new accounts every day.  An uncle once told that with great power comes great responsibility but I’d add that it also comes great feedback. Besides handling some support tickets everyday, we also have the opportunity to review a ton of feedback/feature requests. That pretty much guides us on how & why people are using the product and what they want & need in the future. With…

  • 3 Ways to make social media easy

    18 May 2015 | 3:00 pm
The social landscape is changing fast and by the minute. More and more people are on social media and as a result, more businesses jump on board and for good reasons. Sadly, I still hear people complain about it being difficult or too hard to reach their customers. Firstly, I think we need to get out of the mindset of using social media solely as a selling or client prospect tool. Social media was created to be social and only later was it used as a business tool. Knowing the history and nature of the platform will help you in using it effectively. The best way to use social media is to build…

If you’re a business owner who has spent a bit of time online, you must have heard the phrase ‘you must build your mailing list’ a few times. • Social media in less than an hour a week

    27 Apr 2015 | 3:00 pm
I’m part of a number of masterminds and forums and the main thing people seem to struggle with in using social media is the time it takes to create and distribute content. I totally get this struggle, even as a seasoned social media user and coach. I’ve been there, done that and I’ve come out the other end and learned a few tricks along the way. Over time I have tried various scheduling methods such as Hootsuite, CoSchedule, Facebook scheduler, Tweetdeck etc but nothing comes close to what I’m using now. In this blog post I want to share my not-so-secret-secret with…
  • 5 Steps to grow your mailing list authentically

    20 Apr 2015 | 3:00 pm
By now we all know that having an email list is one of the best ways to grow your business. So numbers matter. What matters more though, is the type of people on your list. You don’t just want to be collecting names for the sake of it, so how you grow your list matters. You want people that want to hear from you, and more so, you want people who want to buy from you. For this reason, I never ever ever recommend buying a list. Most likely you will be buying ‘dead leads’, meaning that these people have no interest in hearing from you and they will be a waste of money. So how…

Viral marketing is a type of advertising campaign that relies on individuals to pass on marketing messages to other individuals, so that recognition of a product or service spreads and replicates, yes, like a virus. This approach can create a lot of positive impact during promotional campaigns or product launches. The term ‘viral marketing’ can frequently be used interchangeably with, or in addition to, Influencer Marketing and/or Word-of-Mouth Marketing. This is because the content created for a viral marketing campaign is often spread by influencers, so finding a core group of…

  • The Art Of Storytelling – Converting Fairytales To Brand Stories

    22 May 2015 | 12:07 am
When Brothers Grimm wrote up those wonderful stories stocked up in the forests coming up with one engaging fairytale over other, they perhaps did not realize the nostalgia, and childhood sense of fulfillment they would evoke in adults and children a century ahead. Fairytales with all their quirks and issues brought forward by modernists and Shreks, still remain stories that we remember. The art of storytelling is the power of its capture, the reach and the recall. Much like we would like brand stories to be, ideally. Converting the idea of fairytales into brand stories, is not easy. But…
  • Rebuttal: There Is Never A Need For Content

    18 May 2015 | 1:09 am
Here’s a post that talked about why “real products” market themselves and do not need content marketing. I am not writing a rebuttal because it’s my husband and that we disagree, but mostly because, his view is not an isolated view. Many product managers and Tech experts tend to say this. My husband thinks I am the Martha Stewart of branding (and I take that compliment, thank you!), but I will go ahead and refute this overall claim that there is never a new for content. Because, we need to start from the start. 1. The Product is the Brand- not entirely The product is…
